Relieving Your Dental Anxiety At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry

Hello Birmingham dental blog visitors! Welcome to the Koch Aesthetic Dentistry blog. I am Dr. J. Paul Koch and I specialize in smile restoration and cosmetic dentistry.

A close friend of mine recently expressed fears about her upcoming root canal in Birmingham. She was anxious about the pain she might experience and worried about getting work off for the multiple office visits to complete the procedure. I assured her that painful root canal procedures are a thing of the past with modern sedation dentistry.

With the latest technology and anesthetics, a root canal (endodontic treatment) is no more painful than receiving a filling. Most root canals can be completed in one or two short office visits.

My friend’s anxiety was diminished when she knew what to expect. If you have been neglecting your teeth because of fears or concerns about a particular procedure and have not been to your Birmingham cosmetic dentist recently, I encourage you to schedule an exam, cleaning, and consultation today. We are accepting new Birmingham dentistry patients at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry.

My staff and I at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry offer dental implants, fast teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, and all general and preventative dental procedures.

If you are interested in laser dentistry or sedation dentistry, call us today to schedule an appointment.

Koch Aesthetic Dentistry Tooth Tips For Traveling

Koch Aesthetic Dentistry Tooth Tips For Traveling

If you live in the Alabama area and are planning to take a vacation or business trip soon, I recommend you coordinate your cosmetic dental care with your travel schedule. It’s always a good idea to have a checkup with your Alabama dentist prior to leaving on long vacations, especially if your trip is taking you to developing areas without good dental care options. This quick checkup will help you be sure that your mouth is ready to travel.

More importantly, if you have any dental procedures scheduled before you leave, discuss it with your Alabama dentist. A large number of dental procedures are actually surgical procedures. This means that your body will need more time to heal than you may realize.

Also, if you’re leaving the Alabama area by plane, you should be aware that changes in the cabin pressure of the airplane may cause tooth pain or discomfort for patients who have just had oral surgery. In addition, make sure you are aware of any necessary follow-up appointments with your Alabama dentist or orthodontist before you schedule a vacation.

I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch and I want Alabama residents to be informed about their dental care. My dental practice offers:

  • cosmetic dentistry
  • dental implants
  • porcelain veneers
  • laser dentistry
  • a dental spa

If you are looking for general dental care or quality cosmetic and sedation dentistry in Alabama, please call us today and let our passionate and professional staff take care of you.

How Do You Measure Success in Birmingham?

February 24th, 2012

Affordable Mountain Brook Tooth Bleaching At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, we are all about success. Dr. J. Paul Koch’s experience, ability, and commitment to dental excellence result in successful outcomes daily for our cosmetic dentistry clients. Each team member at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry shares Dr. Koch’s passion for success.

For many Birmingham dental patients, success is a routine check-up that reveals healthy teeth and no cavities. For our cosmetic dental clients, success is a stunning smile makeover using veneers, teeth whitening and tooth-colored fillings. For our Birmingham area patients with a missing tooth, dental implants are used to successfully restore their smile. It is exciting to see implant recipients smile for the first time after receiving their new tooth implant.

We also enjoy completing successful tooth-straightening procedures for youth and adults. Though these transformations take longer than one-visit smile re-designs, the results are no less incredible. In fact, our Birmingham clear braces patients probably appreciate their straight teeth and beautiful smile more than any of our other patients.

Success sometimes means removing tetracycline stains for a Birmingham teeth bleaching patient who has been hiding his/her smile for years. Sometimes, success is as simple as helping a nervous patient feel relaxed and comfortable during their visit to our Birmingham cosmetic and sedation dentistry office.

What do you desire for your smile? At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, our success depends on your complete smile satisfaction.

To meet our team and discuss your smile specifics, call Koch Aesthetic Dentistry at 205-202-8618.

To Chew Or Not To Chew In Birmingham

February 10th, 2012

To Chew Or Not To Chew In Birmingham

Hello Birmingham gum chewers, today we’re going to talk about that sticky wad in your mouth. You know that it can freshen your breath, but can it really help prevent cavities? That’s the question we’re asking in today’s Birmingham cosmetic dental blog.

It really depends on the type of gum. Chewing regular sucrose-based gum can help remove bits of food from the surface of teeth, but that benefit is negated by the stream of sugar washing over your teeth as you chew.

However, gums with some alternative sweeteners have an added benefit for your pearly whites. Xylitol is a sweetener which not only has fewer calories than traditional sugars, but it also has antimicrobial properties that reduce plaque buildup. This means that xylitol inhibits the growth of bacteria that causes tooth decay.

So if you’re headed out to any restaurants in the Birmingham area, bring a pack of sugar-free gum with you and pop it in your mouth when your meal is done. Of course, brushing and flossing are a better option for your oral health, but when you can’t brush, choose a sugarless gum with xylitol to chew.

I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch, a cosmetic and sedation dentist in Birmingham. I want my patients to have the best oral health possible. My practice, Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, is located at 2311 Highland Ave S, Ste 323.

If you have any questions about how to improve your oral health, or if you would like to learn more about any of our cosmetic dentistry procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, and complete smile makeovers, give us a call today at 205-202-8618.

We specialize in cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, and clear braces. Our staff is passionate about your smile, your comfort and your professional care. Give us a call today to set an appointment!

Artistic Smile Makeovers At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry

February 3rd, 2012

Artistic Smile Masterpieces At Allan S. Thomas, Cosmetic & General Dentistry

Hello Birmingham friends of Koch Aesthetic Dentistry! Thanks for stopping by the ultimate cosmetic dentistry blog. Today we are talking about personal transformation. Many Birmingham men and women want to reinvent themselves in at least one aspect of their life.

Some Birmingham people are training for a new career. Some local men and women have made a healthy lifestyle a priority by making better food choices and working out on a regular basis. Some Birmingham people are dedicating more attention to their personal relationships.

At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr. Paul Koch skillfully uses advanced cosmetic dentistry to transform lucky patients with complete smile makeovers.

A comprehensive smile redesign involves more than applying four or six porcelain veneers to the upper front teeth. Though veneers can dramatically improve a smile, a complete smile makeover is a total smile transformation.

Dr. Koch evaluates the condition, size, shape, alignment, and color of the teeth. These elements are created, meticulously refined, and integrated in perfect harmony. The procedures Dr. Koch adeptly uses are dental crowns, inlays/onlays, clear braces, dental veneers, teeth whitening, and dental implants.

Like any artistic masterpiece, a perfect smile is far more than the sum of its parts.

If you have a vision for your smile, it can become a reality at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry. Schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation today at our dental spa by calling 205-202-8618 or visiting http://www.kochaesthetics.com/meetdrkoch.htm.

Is Malocclusion Causing Your Headache?

January 27th, 2012

Birmingham Headache Relief Are you an Alabama adult who suffers with chronic headaches? Have you tried Imitrex, diet adjustments, and Alabama chiropractic treatment? Perhaps the cause is not stress-induced tension, spine alignment or eyestrain. Maybe the culprit is right under your nose.

Bite misalignment or malocclusion is a common Alabama problem that often goes undetected. Nature intended the front teeth to fit slightly forward from the lower teeth. With a perfect bite, the molars fit together like precision gears.

Malocclusion can cause headaches, tooth loosening, tooth fracture, and in extreme cases, difficulty chewing, speaking or breathing.

Alabama invisible braces are an effective solution for most bite problems. Braces not only move teeth, they can also correct the position and function of the joints, muscles and bones in the jaw. In cases of extreme malocclusion, jaw surgery in Alabama may be necessary.

Not all Alabama dentists treat bite problems. At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry we treat most types of malocclusion including overbite, underbite and crossbite. For an affordable Alabama cosmetic dentistry consultation, call us at 205-202-8618.

Koch Aesthetic Dentistry offers technologically-advanced dentistry in a friendly environment. We offer teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental crowns and dental implants. To learn more about our dental philosophy and available procedures, see http://www.kochaesthetics.com/meetdrkoch.htm.

Koch Aesthetic Dentistry Guide To Healthy Tooth Enamel

January 13th, 2012

Koch Aesthetic Dentistry Guide To Healthy Tooth Enamel

Here at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, we want your teeth to last a lifetime! Tooth enamel is one of the hardest parts of the body, but it is non-renewable so it is important not to not neglect or abuse our teeth. Daily teeth and gum care is the best way to protect tooth enamel.

Even though every Alabama drug store carries hard bristle brushes, we recommend brushing with a soft brush after every meal to gently brush away acid. Scrub too hard, and you can erode enamel. It is ideal to brush immediately after eating, but brushing within 60 minutes of a meal has benefits. The quicker you remove food from your teeth, the better it is for your enamel.

Flossing regularly is also important to keep gums healthy. Whether the food is on tooth surfaces, or hidden in between, it is not doing your enamel any good.

Cosmetic dentist Dr. J. Paul Koch recommends a checkup and thorough cleaning every six months. Our skilled hygienists remove tartar, a substance that attracts plaque to the surface of the teeth and can weaken the teeth’s structures. Regular checkups prevent problems and save you money on expensive restorations (like crowns or dental implants) down the road.

Remember: don’t use your teeth for opening packages! Keep scissors and bottle openers handy. At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, we see damaged teeth and dental work as a result of patients using their teeth as tools. Biting down on something too hard, like ice or hard candy can also damage enamel.

Attention Alabama athletes: be sure to use a mouthguard for team, contact, and recreational sports.

Teeth grinding is also a common dental threat. Be careful not to grind teeth, this can not only wear away enamel but also pave ways for cavities to get in. If you grind your teeth while you are sleeping, make an appointment to be fitted for a night guard. Your enamel will thank you.

Lastly, remember: drink water. Coffee, sports drinks, soda, wine, and tea all contain a lot of acid or sugar, and in some cases both. Cut back, or at least use a straw. These drinks cause a lot of tooth decay for non-water drinkers in Alabama.

We hope you find these Koch Aesthetic Dentistry tips helpful. For more information on dental care, or to schedule an appointment, contact our Alabama dental spa today at 205-202-8618!

What is a Canted Midline?

January 6th, 2012

Mountain Brook Cosmetic Dentists Dr. J. Paul Koch considers many factors when designing a smile for a Birmingham smile makeover client. One of the smile design elements involved is the facial midline. The facial midline can be determined by drawing an imaginary line from the center of the eyebrows to the center of the two peaks in the top lip (Cupid’s bow).

The skilled Birmingham cosmetic dentist considers the length and angle of the facial midline to properly position porcelain crowns, dental veneers and dental implants. When front teeth restorations do not line up with the facial midline, it is called a canted midline. This is a common mistake found in the cosmetic work of inexperienced Birmingham cosmetic dentists.

Most Birmingham dentistry patients do not realize the level of 3-D engineering required in cosmetic dentistry. In addition to the orientation in relation to the facial midline, there is also the angle and size of the teeth in relation to each other and in relation to the size and shape of the lips and gums.

If you are considering an extensive smile makeover, you do not want to trust your smile to an inexperienced Birmingham cosmetic dentist. When you have a smile design consultation with Dr. J. Paul Koch feel free to ask probing questions about his experience and technical design procedures. We are confident that you will feel comfortable choosing Dr. Koch for your smile makeover.

Koch Aesthetic Dentistry is located at 2311 Highland Ave S, Ste 323 in Birmingham. We offer a full range of general and cosmetic dental procedures. Ask us about veneers, clear braces, tooth whitening and laser dentistry. We look forward to meeting you. Call us today at 205-202-8618.
