Artistic Smile Masterpieces At Allan S. Thomas, Cosmetic & General Dentistry

Hello Birmingham friends of Koch Aesthetic Dentistry! Thanks for stopping by the ultimate cosmetic dentistry blog. Today we are talking about personal transformation. Many Birmingham men and women want to reinvent themselves in at least one aspect of their life.

Some Birmingham people are training for a new career. Some local men and women have made a healthy lifestyle a priority by making better food choices and working out on a regular basis. Some Birmingham people are dedicating more attention to their personal relationships.

At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr. Paul Koch skillfully uses advanced cosmetic dentistry to transform lucky patients with complete smile makeovers.

A comprehensive smile redesign involves more than applying four or six porcelain veneers to the upper front teeth. Though veneers can dramatically improve a smile, a complete smile makeover is a total smile transformation.

Dr. Koch evaluates the condition, size, shape, alignment, and color of the teeth. These elements are created, meticulously refined, and integrated in perfect harmony. The procedures Dr. Koch adeptly uses are dental crowns, inlays/onlays, clear braces, dental veneers, teeth whitening, and dental implants.

Like any artistic masterpiece, a perfect smile is far more than the sum of its parts.

If you have a vision for your smile, it can become a reality at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry. Schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation today at our dental spa by calling 205-202-8618 or visiting http://www.kochaesthetics.com/meetdrkoch.htm.

Is Malocclusion Causing Your Headache?

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Birmingham Headache Relief Are you an Alabama adult who suffers with chronic headaches? Have you tried Imitrex, diet adjustments, and Alabama chiropractic treatment? Perhaps the cause is not stress-induced tension, spine alignment or eyestrain. Maybe the culprit is right under your nose.

Bite misalignment or malocclusion is a common Alabama problem that often goes undetected. Nature intended the front teeth to fit slightly forward from the lower teeth. With a perfect bite, the molars fit together like precision gears.

Malocclusion can cause headaches, tooth loosening, tooth fracture, and in extreme cases, difficulty chewing, speaking or breathing.

Alabama invisible braces are an effective solution for most bite problems. Braces not only move teeth, they can also correct the position and function of the joints, muscles and bones in the jaw. In cases of extreme malocclusion, jaw surgery in Alabama may be necessary.

Not all Alabama dentists treat bite problems. At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry we treat most types of malocclusion including overbite, underbite and crossbite. For an affordable Alabama cosmetic dentistry consultation, call us at 205-202-8618.

Koch Aesthetic Dentistry offers technologically-advanced dentistry in a friendly environment. We offer teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental crowns and dental implants. To learn more about our dental philosophy and available procedures, see http://www.kochaesthetics.com/meetdrkoch.htm.

Dr. J. Paul Koch is a proud member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Are You Ready To Smile Again, Alabama?

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Most Alabama residents have plenty of things to smile about.

However, there are some folks who avoid smiling at all costs. Are you one of those people who cover their mouth when they laugh? Do you keep your mouth closed when someone takes a picture of you? Have you been hiding unsightly teeth for years?

It’s time to take care of those tooth problems and get a new lease on life.

Dr. Paul Koch at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry in Alabama can make it happen!

If you are missing one or more teeth, and live in Alabama, talk to us about dental implants. A dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement that includes both root and dental crown. Because it is anchored into the jawbone, it looks and feels like a natural tooth.

Are your teeth yellow or gray? Have teeth whitening done at our Alabama dental practice and experience an instant transformation.

Many of your Alabama friends and neighbors have benefited from porcelain veneers. They correct several types of imperfections and can be applied in just one visit to our Alabama cosmetic dental office.

Is a Perfect Smile Possible In Birmingham?

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Homewood Cosmetic Dentistry Are you considering a smile makeover in the Birmingham area? Are you skeptical of promises of a ‘perfect smile’, a ‘celebrity smile’ or ‘a dazzling, youthful smile’? Let’s talk about the most popular Birmingham cosmetic dental procedures and the results that can be expected.

Composite Veneers
The application of porcelain veneers at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry can remedy a multitude of aesthetic dental problems and is often a better cosmetic dental solution for candidates in the Birmingham area than dental bonding. Veneers can correct tooth chips, tooth cracks, minor tooth misalignment, discoloration, unattractive tooth shape, and disproportionate tooth size. Can a porcelain veneer create a perfect tooth? While a veneer cannot fix a decayed tooth, it can turn an unsightly tooth into an aesthetically perfect tooth.

Tooth Bleaching
Birmingham tooth whitening is a non-invasive cosmetic dental treatment that dramatically improves a smile. However, some tooth whitening dentists will guarantee fantastic results for any patient that desires a whiter smile. At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry in Birmingham, we only recommend tooth bleaching for clients that are good candidates for the process. If you have all-natural teeth that are dull or stained, tooth whitening will brighten your smile. If you have several dental crowns in the front of your mouth, or gums that have receded, conventional tooth-whitening may not improve your smile.

Call 205-202-8618 to schedule a tooth-whitening consultation.

These are just a couple of the cosmetic dental solutions that create perfect smiles for our Birmingham clients. You can see a complete list of our services at http://www.KochAesthetics.com.

Birmingham Dental News: Poor Oral Health And Heart Disease

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Top Birmingham Family Dentists Attention Birmingham dental patients: brushing twice daily may help lower your risk of heart disease. Birmingham scientists, dentists, and cardiologists have known for many years that there is a link between inflammation in the mouth (gum disease) and heart problems, However, a recent study analyzed oral health habits and heart disease risk. Science Daily reported on the study which was published in the British Medical Journal.

I quote from the Science Daily article:

“The authors, led by Professor Richard Watt from University College London, analyzed data from over 11,000 adults who took part in a Scottish Health Survey. The research team analyzed data about lifestyle behaviors such as smoking, physical activity, and oral health routines.”

“Once the data was adjusted for established cardio risk factors, the researchers found that participants who reported less frequent toothbrushing had a 70 percent extra risk of heart disease compared to individuals who brushed their teeth twice a day.”

I am cosmetic dentist Dr. J. Paul Koch DMD of Koch Aesthetic Dentistry. The Scottish survey is one of many that confirms the link between oral health and overall health. Simply put: you aren’t healthy unless your gums and teeth are healthy.

It doesn’t matter if you are a lean Birmingham distance runner with a pulse of fifteen beats a minute and a blood pressure of 100 over 60. It doesn’t matter if you are a vegan who has eaten a nutritionally balanced, low-fat diet for the past five years. If you have inflamed gums and tooth decay, you are at risk for problems in other areas of the body.

The phone number for Koch Aesthetic Dentistry is 205-202-8618. If you have concerns about your oral health, I invite you to schedule an examination today.

Perhaps your teeth and gums are healthy but you wish your smile was more attractive. We can help you there also with a smile redesign. Porcelain veneers, crowns, inlays/onlays, and orthodontia are all available to solve any cosmetic problems you wish to correct. We also offer sedation dentistry for those Birmingham patients who may experience dental anxiety.

My team and I are passionate about your comfort and your professional care. We will help keep your smile beautiful for life.

Call us at 205-202-8618 to learn more about the services we offer at our dental spa.

Same Day Smile Makeovers At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Have you ever wished your Alabama cosmetic dentist could glue new pearly white covers on your existing teeth as easy as you paint a wall in your house? Guess what? With porcelain veneers, it’s possible. Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin tooth-shaped fronts that are permanently bonded to your natural teeth.

Unlike a dental crown procedure, your Alabama dentist does not need to remove tooth structure to place the restoration. If the teeth in question have decay, come see us immediately.

Call 205-202-8618 to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry in Alabama, dental veneers are used alone and in combination with other cosmetic dental procedures to create complete smile makeovers. Because they can correct cosmetic tooth misalignment in one visit, veneers are sometimes referred to as ‘instant orthodontics’.

Do veneers look like natural teeth?
Skilled Alabama cosmetic dental lab artists create porcelain veneers with the color, reflective properties, and translucency of natural teeth: perfect natural teeth, that is. In addition, porcelain veneers can be made in any size or shape.

Are veneers at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry
strong?
Porcelain veneers are fabricated out of extremely durable material. If you have questions about whether a veneer or dental crown is the best choice for you, talk to Dr. J. Paul Koch. Dr. Koch will consider the size and condition of the tooth and its position in the mouth.

How long do veneers last?
Some Koch Aesthetic Dentistry smile makeover clients have veneers they received over 15 years ago. (And they still look terrific!) If properly cared for, veneers can last as long as dental crowns.

Are porcelain veneers affordable in Alabama
?
The cost of cosmetic dental veneers at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry is competitive with other premium cosmetic dental practices in the area. We use what we believe is the top Alabama dental lab to create our client’s veneers and a significant portion of the cost of veneers goes to the lab. Porcelain veneers are often less expensive in Alabama than crowns and invisible braces. For questions about the cost of porcelain veneers, call our office at 205-202-8618.

Crooked Teeth in Birmingham?

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Can't afford braces? Now is a great time to have crooked teeth! Why? They can easily be straightened.

There are few technological wonders of our era that are more appreciated than modern braces. Teeth straightening hardware of past generations in Birmingham had many drawbacks. They often involved a whole orthodontic tool kit–full metal bands, headgear, elastics, spacers, and wires poking every which way. If you played an instrument that required the use of your mouth, well, it wasn’t pretty.

Metal braces for most in Birmingham were uncomfortable, bulky, and downright ugly. They also created many hidden nooks and crannies for bacteria to quietly drill into your enamel. If you are too young to remember old school braces, you can’t truly appreciate the ceramic braces, clear braces and Invisalign aligners available today right here in Homewood, Hoover , and Vestavia Hills, Crestline. Even traditional metal braces are now smaller, less noticeable, and more comfortable.

The advancements in Birmingham orthodontic treatments and shorter treatment times is one reason many Birmingham adults have chosen to straighten their teeth with clear braces even if they passed as a teenager. Does that mean you don’t need to have your child seen by a Birmingham orthodontist if you suspect problems? Absolutely not.

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends early Birmingham orthodontic evaluation. It is always best to identify problems with teeth and jaw development early. Your orthodontist or dentist will know the proper age to begin treatment if necessary.

We provide many cosmetic dental procedures at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry in Birmingham. Did you know that porcelain veneers can solve some less-extreme tooth alignment problems? If your teeth are fairly straight but your smile is compromised by a couple of damaged or chipped teeth, affordable porcelain veneers may be your one-visit solution.

Energy Drink Warning For Birmingham

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Homewood Smile Redesign Hello. I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch.

Welcome to my Birmingham dental blog. Today’s topic is energy drinks and the damage they can cause to your teeth. I am seeing more and more Birmingham teens and adults with tooth enamel erosion caused by frequent consumption of sport drinks.

Most of these Birmingham dentistry patients take good care of their teeth, brush and flush, and come into Koch Aesthetic Dentistry for a twice-yearly exam and deep cleaning. But guess what? If you drink energy drinks regularly, your enamel can erode even if you practice immaculate oral hygiene.

Energy drinks like Red Bull, Rock Star, and Monster are a cocktail of powerful acids and other enamel-eroding substances. Most of them contain citric acid, fruit juices, loads of sugar, and a potent chemical that gives them their bright fluorescent color.

Perhaps, like myself, you have often noticed young people walking out of Homewood convenience stores swigging 32-ounce energy drinks. I am concerned that Birmingham teens do not understand the serious dental consequences of frequent acid baths.

The following is from ABC Sports:

“Sports drinks are increasingly damaging the teeth of professional and recreational athletes, one of Australia’s top sports dentists has warned. Dr. Brett Dorney says he has witnessed a huge increase in dental erosion since the Sidney Olympics, when he was the event’s deputy director of dental services.”

Here is an excerpt from a recent CNN Story:

“Researchers at the University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry found the energy drinks and sports drinks eroded the enamel more than soda and fruit juices.”

I need to add the caveat that soda and fruit juices also contain acids that can damage teeth.

If your teeth have enamel erosion, whatever the cause, we can restore your smile with advanced cosmetic dentistry. Dental crowns, porcelain veneers, inlays and onlays can correct both structural and cosmetic problems.

Our phone number is 205-202-8618. If you are interested in re-designing your smile, come in for an exam and consultation. With cutting-edge cosmetic dentistry, we can repair acid-damaged teeth and dramatically increase your face value.
