Cosmetic Dentistry In Alabama Allows You To Smile Like You Mean It

Hello Alabama friends! Have you ever noticed someone who refuses to flash a genuine smile? Even in a family picture, they stay tight-lipped. Even if they’re laughing at the funniest joke ever, they cover their mouths. Maybe this person is you and maybe you need a smile makeover.

Don’t be embarrassed! Here at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry we specialize in cosmetic dentistry procedures for our Birmingham area patients. There are diverse reasons a dental patient could be shy about their smile, such as injury, tooth discoloration, poor spacing, or missing teeth. But chances are, there is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that can help.

Wouldn’t it be great to have the confident smile you’ve always wanted?

Many patients start with teeth whitening to get them on their way to a brighter smile. This is a simple procedure, but the results are dramatic.

Other options to improve the look of your teeth include dental implants, veneers, crowns, enamel shaping, bonding, and more! We can also refer you to a local orthodontist if necessary.

I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch and I am passionate about helping my patients have healthy teeth and beautiful smiles. If you would like to know more about smile makeovers in the Birmingham area, give us a call at 205-202-8618 and our passionate staff can answer any questions you have and schedule an appointment.

Call today to get a smile you’ll never want to hide!

Cosmetic Dental Consequences Of Oral Piercing In Birmingham

Oral piercing is a popular form of body-art in Birmingham, but just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s safe. I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch, a dentist serving Birmingham Alabama and the surrounding areas. When my patients ask me about the safety of oral piercings, I make sure they understand the possible consequences.

First, people should know that infection is always a major concern with any piercing, but because the mouth is the perfect environment for breeding bacteria, oral piercings are especially problematic. Chewing, swallowing, and speaking can also be impaired by an oral piercing.

Oral piercings can lead to an increase in saliva flow and, possibly, excessive drooling, something my Birmingham cosmetic dental patients generally want to avoid. (I don’t know anyone who thinks drooling is attractive.) Chipped or cracked teeth, damage to dental fillings, and metal sensitivity are other possible results.

Another serious risk associated with piercings that should concern Birmingham area residents is nerve damage. Many people experience temporary numbness after a piercing, but for some, sensations never return. An injured nerve can also affect facial movements as well as your sense of taste.

Do you really want to risk looking like a stroke victim for the rest of your life?

If you’ve read through this and you’re still sure a tongue bar or lip piercing is for you, please consult your Birmingham area dentist so they can help you make the safest decision possible for your dental health. If you are looking for a dentist around Birmingham, our passionate staff here at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry would be happy to schedule an appointment for you. We offer dental implants, porcelain veneers, laser dentistry, and more!

We may even convince you that safe, effective cosmetic dentistry such as teeth whitening, veneers, or bonding would be a smarter and safer way to express your personality and boost your confidence. Give us a call today!

3 Ways To Keep Your Mouth Happy, Birmingham!

Friday, April 26th, 2013

Your Diet And Your Birmingham Cosmetic Dentist

Hi. I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch, a cosmetic and sedation dentist here in Birmingham. It is my goal to help my patients have optimum oral health, and today I would like to talk about something else associated with our mouths that doesn’t get as much attention as cavities or cosmetic dentistry: it’s our sense of taste.

A happy mouth is not only a healthy mouth, but also a mouth that can enjoy the flavors of all types of foods. And it turns out that many of the habits that will keep your taste buds sensitive are those that will also be good for your teeth and gums. So here are a few tips to help you better enjoy the flavor of your food.

1) Treat dry mouth. Dry mouth can create a loss of taste sensitivity, so it should be treated quickly by your Birmingham dentist. Plus, optimal levels of saliva are important to avoid cavities and keep gums healthy.

2) Avoid processed foods with fake flavors and too much sugar and salt. They will quickly desensitized you to more subtle, healthy flavors.

3) Don’t smoke! Cigarettes are responsible for so many horrible health issues, but many people don’t realize that their sense of taste is dulled while they smoke and the olfactory nerves can even be damaged permanently.

Thank you so much for visiting the Birmingham dentist blog. Along with dental health and a keen sense of taste, I want my patients to have the beautiful smile they have always desired. So, if you have any questions regarding cosmetic dentistry such as smile makeovers, dental implants or teeth whitening, please contact us. We are located at 2311 Highland Ave S, Ste 323 and you can reach us for an appointment at 205-202-8618.

Wear A Crown In Alabama

Friday, April 19th, 2013

Wear A Porcelain Crown In Alabama

Some Birmingham residents who have a weak or broken tooth may want to research dental crowns as a solution to improve their smile and overall oral health. A crown is really a cap or covering that is tooth-shaped and when it is in place, it will cover the portion of the covered tooth that is above the gum line.

Crowns can be made of metals, resin, ceramic, porcelain, or a porcelain-fused-to-metal material. Your Birmingham area cosmetic dentist will usually put in a temporary crown while a permanent crown is being created especially for your mouth in a dental laboratory.

Dental crowns have been used successfully in Birmingham cosmetic dentistry for decades.

Many Alabama dentists use crowns when performing smile makeovers to cover patient’s discolored or poorly shaped teeth. Strong, natural-looking crowns are also used with dental implants.

If you think a dental crown may be right for you, check with your dentist. Or, if you are searching for quality dental care in the Birmingham Alabama area, call us here at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry. We are located in Birmingham and have been serving the greater Birmingham area since 2000. We are currently accepting new patients at our state-of-the art, yet warm and comfortable dental office.

Call us at 205-202-8618 and our passionate staff can answer any questions you have about teeth whitening, veneers, enamel shaping, or any other cosmetic dental, general oral health, or dental financing questions.

Laser Dentistry For A Beautiful New Smile In Birmingham

If your crooked, discolored teeth keep you from smiling and you feel like there is nothing you can do about it please give me a call! My name is Dr. J. Paul Koch and my staff and I at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry have been giving the people of Birmingham something to smile about since 2000.

If you are disappointed with the smile mother nature gave you, let me help you create the smile of your dreams. New procedures and materials now make it possible to completely revamp and restyle your mouth in Alabama.

If your teeth are uneven, Koch Aesthetic Dentistry has several options to correct that. We can re-contour your teeth by removing a small portion of your enamel to change the length or shape of your tooth. If more is required to improve your smile we can offer you dental veneers or bonding.

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are permanently attached to the fronts of your teeth, correcting any imperfections. They last much longer than dental bonding and preserve more natural tooth structure than dental crowns.

Many Alabama resident’s teeth have become discolored by drinking colas, tea, or coffee. If you have stained or discolored teeth and dream of having pearly white teeth then check out the many teeth whitening options at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry.

Stop hiding behind a timid smile. Take charge and let Koch Aesthetic Dentistry create a confident, beautiful smile.

Ask us about smile restoration, cosmetic and recontructive dentistry, and dental implants.

Teeth: What Have They Done For You Lately?

Cosmetic Dentistry Birmingham

Welcome to the Birmingham dental blog! Today we are going to look at the secret life of our teeth.

The shape of each tooth gives a clue to what it does. The incisors, or your front teeth, are sharp. They need to be because they are there to cut food and their curvature helps move food inside the mouth.

Behind the incisors, you find the canine teeth. Their roots go far into the jaw bone because they are designed to hold onto food and tear through it.

Premolars, found just behind the canines, are flat on the surface. This allows them to crush your food as you chew. And, finally, in the very back are the molars. They are large and have nice, flat chewing surfaces that help them to grind food down into smaller, more digestible pieces.

I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch, a Birmingham cosmetic dentist, and I hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little more about the different teeth in your mouth.
If you are in the Birmingham area and would like to make an appointment at my practice, Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, please give us a call at 205-202-8618. We can schedule an appointment and tell you about cosmetic dentistry procedures such as teeth whitening and dental implants.

If you’ve ever been interested in a smile makeover, come on in and we’ll discuss the possibilities. I want my Birmingham dental patients to have healthy mouths and beautiful smiles. At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, we offer comprehensive dental services including:
