Hello Alabama friends! Have you ever noticed someone who refuses to flash a genuine smile? Even in a family picture, they stay tight-lipped. Even if they’re laughing at the funniest joke ever, they cover their mouths. Maybe this person is you and maybe you need a smile makeover.

Don’t be embarrassed! Here at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry we specialize in cosmetic dentistry procedures for our Birmingham area patients. There are diverse reasons a dental patient could be shy about their smile, such as injury, tooth discoloration, poor spacing, or missing teeth. But chances are, there is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that can help.

Wouldn’t it be great to have the confident smile you’ve always wanted?

Many patients start with teeth whitening to get them on their way to a brighter smile. This is a simple procedure, but the results are dramatic.

Other options to improve the look of your teeth include dental implants, veneers, crowns, enamel shaping, bonding, and more! We can also refer you to a local orthodontist if necessary.

I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch and I am passionate about helping my patients have healthy teeth and beautiful smiles. If you would like to know more about smile makeovers in the Birmingham area, give us a call at 205-202-8618 and our passionate staff can answer any questions you have and schedule an appointment.

3 Ways To Keep Your Mouth Happy, Birmingham!

Friday, April 26th, 2013

Your Diet And Your Birmingham Cosmetic Dentist

Hi. I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch, a cosmetic and sedation dentist here in Birmingham. It is my goal to help my patients have optimum oral health, and today I would like to talk about something else associated with our mouths that doesn’t get as much attention as cavities or cosmetic dentistry: it’s our sense of taste.

A happy mouth is not only a healthy mouth, but also a mouth that can enjoy the flavors of all types of foods. And it turns out that many of the habits that will keep your taste buds sensitive are those that will also be good for your teeth and gums. So here are a few tips to help you better enjoy the flavor of your food.

1) Treat dry mouth. Dry mouth can create a loss of taste sensitivity, so it should be treated quickly by your Birmingham dentist. Plus, optimal levels of saliva are important to avoid cavities and keep gums healthy.

2) Avoid processed foods with fake flavors and too much sugar and salt. They will quickly desensitized you to more subtle, healthy flavors.

3) Don’t smoke! Cigarettes are responsible for so many horrible health issues, but many people don’t realize that their sense of taste is dulled while they smoke and the olfactory nerves can even be damaged permanently.

Thank you so much for visiting the Birmingham dentist blog. Along with dental health and a keen sense of taste, I want my patients to have the beautiful smile they have always desired. So, if you have any questions regarding cosmetic dentistry such as smile makeovers, dental implants or teeth whitening, please contact us. We are located at 2311 Highland Ave S, Ste 323 and you can reach us for an appointment at 205-202-8618.

Mouthwash Facts In Birmingham

Mouthwash Facts From Your Birmingham Cosmetic Dentist

Hi, I am Dr. J. Paul Koch and this is the Koch Aesthetic Dentistry blog. In today’s post I would like to discuss mouthwash. Many Alabama residents use mouthwashes to freshen their breath and help retard tooth decay. Mouthwash should never be used exclusively though, good oral hygiene starts with a thorough tooth brushing followed by flossing. Mouthwash is just a supplement in your dental hygiene tool box.

It is important for Alabama residents to know what kind of mouthwash they are using. Some mouthwashes merely mask bad breath while others help reduce the bacteria that causes plaque and bad breath.

If you are one of the Birmingham residents that suffers from bad breath, it is important to choose a mouthwash that contains ingredients that help prevent tooth decay such as fluoride. But Birmingham folks also need to use caution when using mouthwashes because many of the ingredients are dangerous when the recommended amount of mouthwash is exceeded.

Some of the poisonous components are chlorhexidine gluconate, ethanol, hydrogen peroxide, and methyl salicylate. If you experience throat pain, vomiting, headache, or abdominal pain after using mouthwash, seek medical help immediately. The National Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) can answer questions if you feel have over used your mouthwash.

At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry we want everyone to have great smelling breath, but to use caution when treating their bad breath. Make sure to read your mouthwash label and follow all instructions given.

In addition to preventative dental care, Koch Aesthetic Dentistry offers a wide range of cosmetic dentistry procedures. If you are a resident anxious to have a whiter, brighter smile, Koch Aesthetic Dentistry offers various teeth whitening options. Koch Aesthetic Dentistry also provide smile restoration and cosmetic and implant dentistry.

At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry we have been improving the smiles of residents in Birmingham Alabama and the surrounding areas since 2000. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.

Cosmetic Dentistry vs. General Dentistry In Birmingham

Friday, February 8th, 2013

General Dentistry and Cosmetic Dentistry In Birmingham Hello, I’m Dr. Paul Koch. Welcome to my Birmingham cosmetic dentistry blog. Today’s article focuses on the difference between general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.

General dentists in Birmingham are dedicated to preventing and treating oral disease such as cavities and gum disease. When a problem is diagnosed, let’s say, a cavity between two teeth, a general dentist will assess the best way to restore the tooth involved.

Birmingham cosmetic dentists perform elective dental procedures that make a smile more attractive. Cosmetic dentistry procedures available at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry in Birmingham include teeth whitening, tooth-colored fillings, dental bonding, veneers, inlays, onlays, and dental crowns.

Some Birmingham dentists, like myself, offer both cosmetic and general dentistry procedures. In some cases, there is a cosmetic component to restorative procedures. For example, if a Birmingham dental patient comes in after receiving an injury that chipped a front tooth, the tooth needs to be restored to prevent decay. The tooth is also less structurally sound, so it is vulnerable to further damage. In addition, the tooth affects the overall appearance of the smile. Depending on the specifics of the damage, there are several of restorative options. Dental bonding, porcelain veneers, and crowns are all used to repair a damaged tooth.

As you can see, there is not always a definitive line between general and cosmetic dentistry. At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, my passionate team provides the full spectrum of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental procedures. We treat Birmingham area patients of all ages: from toddlers just beginning to get their baby teeth to mature clients who remember the days when many people were afraid of dentists and their whiny drills. (Some of our wonderful elderly patients have dental crowns that are twice as old as our hygienists.)

Experienced Birmingham dental professionals who perform pediatric, general, orthodontic, and cosmetic dental procedures can meet all of your families’ dental needs.

If you are looking for a full-service dental practice in the Birmingham Alabama area, I invite you to come into Koch Aesthetic Dentistry. We are located at 2311 Highland Ave S, Ste 323. To schedule an oral examination or smile makeover consultation, call 205-202-8618.

Look For The Seal In Alabama

Friday, January 11th, 2013

Cosmetic Dentistry Alabama

When you go to an Alabama drugstore or supermarket looking for toothpaste, mouthwash, teeth whitener, or other oral care product, make sure that it carries the seal of the American Dental Association. The seal is there to help you make the best choices you can for the products you need to keep your mouth clean and healthy.

The American Dental Association (or ADA) only places their seal on a product after it has been evaluated to be safe as well as effective. This usually means that companies have to meet standards even higher than those required by law.

Making sure to purchase products with the seal is practically like shopping with your Alabama cosmetic dentist or dental hygienist right by your side!

Hi, I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch of Koch Aesthetic Dentistry. We serve cosmetic dental patients in Alabama. We take pride in caring for our patients and, like the ADA, want you to have a healthy, beautiful smile. Many of our patients wonder if a smile makeover is right for them. If you’d like to know, schedule an appointment and we’ll take a look!

Child-Friendly Birmingham Dentist

Cosmetic Dentist Birmingham

It’s a question that many parents in Birmingham debate: When should I take my child in for their first dental appointment? The answer may be a little earlier than you think.

The American Dental Association recommends that a child sees a dentist around twelve months of age. This happens to be about the time when the first teeth tend to erupt.

Some Birmingham parents may wonder why dental visits are needed so early in their child’s life. Not only will your dentist want to clean your child’s teeth and apply fluoride, it’s also important for small children to get used to seeing the dentist.

Starting early dental visits will mean that later in life your Birmingham child is less likely to require braces or other cosmetic dentistry procedures such as dental implants.

If you have a child that is apprehensive about visiting Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, you might want to think about bringing them to your next Birmingham cosmetic dentistry appointment. Seeing you in the dental chair will help them become more comfortable with the idea.

I’m Dr. J. Paul Koch, a child-friendly Birmingham dentist, and I want my patients to have the best oral health possible. I also want them to look their best, so if you have any questions about a smile makeover, give us a call at 205-202-8618.

At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry we offer:

cosmetic dentistry
dental implants
porcelain veneers
laser dentistry

Celebrating The Past And Looking To The Future At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry

Cosmetic Dental Advancements Alabama

It has now been 150 years since the first dental license was issued to Sir John Tomes. Alabama dental patients should be grateful for the advances made in cosmetic dentistry during the past 150 years.

There was a time when Alabama blacksmiths and wig makers would also extract teeth with forceps to make a little extra money. Anyone could call themselves a dentist. Often these untrained people broke the jaws of the person they were trying to help. Ouch!

At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry, we celebrate with the Alabama dental community and marvel at the many advances made in the history of dentistry, particularly cosmetic dentistry.

One of the modern treatments that has helped countless Alabama patients is invisible braces. This non-visible orthodontic therapy is custom made for each patient. They are transparent and removable and will help you achieve your desired smile in about 3 to 18 months.

I am Dr. J. Paul Koch. My training didn’t end when I graduated from dental school and opened my practice in Alabama. As a cutting-edge cosmetic dentist, I continually seek training so I can expertly perform the latest procedures, such as porcelain veneers or dental implants. In addition, our practice uses the most advanced dental materials available.

If you are one of the many Alabama residents who has dreamed of an esthetic improvement to your smile, we invite you to make an appointment with Koch Aesthetic Dentistry to discuss a smile makeover. Complete smile transformations are completed as quickly and professionally as possible – sometimes in just one visit!

One of our most sought after treatments at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry is smile restoration and many Alabama folks are enjoying a brighter smile because of cosmetic and sedation dentistry.

At Koch Aesthetic Dentistry we have been serving the residents of  zip code area 35205 since 2000 and would love to provide you and your family with professional, friendly dental care.
